HELP NEEDED: 2018 AMG GTC Brake/steering wheel issue
I don’t have an “Ok” button, but the black haptic buttons are used for selection and “ok” functions so I held that down. On my wheel the phone switch is up or down, so I held up on the phone switch. See photo for the buttons.
Holding these buttons down did not pull up the menu. Instead, all of the buttons on the wheel started flashing off and on. They flashed for about 5-10 seconds, then stopped. Now none of the steering wheel buttons or paddles work. If I hold that combination again, the buttons flash again, but nothing else seems to have any functions.
I assume this reset something? I disconnected the battery overnight to see if that would reset whatever I did, but that didn’t work. The lights on the steering wheel buttons still work, but there is no functionality. Looking for help from an AMG mechanic or technician that knows what that button sequence did, and maybe how to reverse it. Or is there someway to reset everything to factory settings? Looking to avoid the dealer if possible because I won’t have time to bring the car in until after the new year.
Thanks in advance for the help!

- Wait for the Parking Brake light to turn off.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Turn the ignition to position 1 (press the start button once).
- Press and hold the black button on the left side of the steering wheel for 2–3 seconds until the display changes. (Refer to the picture for Button 1.)

To access the service menu it’s actually the phone button and the okay button on the right side of the wheel.
Here is what you can test. Find a safe place, gear P, step on brake pedal, gear D, VERY SLOWLY release brake pedal, do you hear the same kind of noises? I'd expect so. Then, drive and VERY SLOWLY press the brake pedal till the car stops. I'd expect you hearing those noises again. Similarly, you can try turning the steering wheel very fast when the car is standing still, just like auto-parking does, I'd expect you hearing similar noises.
Anyway, I'm not an engineer or technician, but it's the same noise when I use auto-parking in GLE, X5 and Cayenne. So I'd assume if it happens to all these cars, both when auto-parking and manual-parking, then it is fine. Of course, you can always bring the car to dealer for a thorough check.
