R190 Audio Upgrade

Being inspired and guided by this community, especially by @Stenzel-Germany and @MasterJohn , I in November started the audio upgrade on my GTC roadster.

I must admit I was initially not aware of the magnitude of work that would be required and if I would, I might not have started in the first place. Now however I feel great with the result so far, what a difference 😀The sub could of course be bigger, but that is life in a roadster 😉 There is still some tuning that needs to be done on the DSP. I think I got the input signals OK, but when it comes to crossover and EQ settings I’m not sure. The question is if I need a microphone or even should go to some expert for the final tuning 🤔Anyone done this by themselves?

Original setup – MB standard no Burmester
- Tweeter with simple capacitor as filter, luckily fed by a full signal
- Midlow at the footwell, fed by lowmid signal only
- No speakers in the doors, i.e. also no cabling, no brackets, no grille
- No speakers at the rear, i.e. also no cabling, no brackets
- No subwoofer

New setup
-
ETON RSC 165 (tweeter & lowmid) together with RSC 80 in the doors completing the 3 way front speaker setup
-
ETON RSC 80 next/behind the seats, so far configured as rear fill, still to try out a differential setup.
- Audio-System US08 passiv sub behind driver seat. Could unfortunately not fit an additional one behind the passenger seat due to some electrical equipment.
- Match 10DSP being able to feed all speakers individually.
- Next step is to add a CarPlay module.

If anyone is planning a similar upgrade from a standard system I’m happy to share further details.
Thanks for reading
Kai

Very impressive project, Kai.

There’s a Swedish company I’ve worked with called Dirac Research AB, based in Uppsala. They specialize in acoustic calibration of listening spaces and amplifier/speaker systems.
I’ve successfully used their technology for audiophile-grade room calibration, and I know they expanded into automotive audio system calibration several years ago.

I’m not certain whether their software can integrate with your system, but it may be worth exploring.
They’re exceptionally strong in this domain.

Solid setup! I had the Match 10 Up in my previous c63s and it performed well. Much easier install due to plug & play capability with the C series. The GT’s are another animal, but at least with the base system, you don’t have to worry about the most150 interface.

It took me a few weeks tweaking the DSP…just take your time as once you get into it, the software is very intuitive. Just make sure to set the crossovers correctly so you don’t blow the tweeters sending it a full range signal, etc. They have some great YouTube videos on how to set up the Helix dsp/amps which use the same software. UMIK 1 microphone and laptop are all you should need.

I know your system is going to sound good!
