used leatherique, but no difference???

I just tested a portion of my rear seat (03 C32) with leatherique, and I didnt notice a difference. I heated the area up with a hair dryer and applied the RO and let it sit for 24 hours, then removed it with the other stuff. Leather feels the same and looks the same.

Did I do something wrong, or is the leather coated and wont make a difference? I still cant determine if the seats are clear coated or not.

Thanks

Did you use Pristine Clean afterwards?

I've never heard of Leatherique being applied correctly and not makeing a vast improvement even to leather that looked like the only way was replacement...

Thumbs down

I used Leatherique with amazing results every time in my late 1990 300CE however on the leather of my 2000 E430 4Matic, I found it to make NO difference whatsoever. My guess is it's because the leather in the newer cars is coated. I'm going to save my money and try using a damp towel with a touch of dish liquid.

well, I have used leatherique on 3 mercedes cars and 2 BMWs and have always seen a huge improvement in the leather appearance and feel. In fact it is soaking on the back seats of my bimmer right now!

AlBoston, I think the REAL topic is whether it makes any difference on the coated leather seats in some of the newer Mercedes models, which prevents it from soaking it, and NOT how many Mercedes or BMW's you or anyone else has used it on.

MB have three grades of 'leather'- Premium Package(top grain hide), MB-Tex (vinyl) and urathene coated leather, which finish are you trying to clean/condition?

Jon, My guess is the leather in my W210 is what you describe as erathane coated leather. Unlike prior models with top grain hide, in which the Leatherique would soak in; on the W210's coated leather, it just sits there.

Covered Leather (Urethane, Vinyl or MB-Tex):
Since late ‘80s early ‘90s 85% of vehicle manufacturers have used covered leather for their interior upholstery. It’s made from natural hides, but uniquely treated with a light pigmented urethane resin coating or a vinyl covering to make it more viable for automotive seating. It retains the softness of natural top-grain leather but resists fading in direct sunlight, leathers worst enemy

Spills wipe off with a moistened cloth, the urethane resin or the vinyl covering require oils to stop it from drying out (just like a paint system's clear coat) the leather also requires replacement of natural oils. Clean, condition and apply a UVR protection as in items 1, 2 & 3 on page 2.

Identifying characteristics- uniform colour and grain patterns; will not scratch easily; water drops will not change colour.

Recommended products-
•Urethane Coated Leather- use Groit's Leather Care or Zanio Z-10 Leather in a bottle
•Vinyl or MB-Tex Covered leather- use Groit's Leather Rejuvenator or Leatherique Prestine Clean

Note: Lexus LS430 and SC430 have uncoated leather. All Lexus made before the 2001-2004 revamp have coated leather. Mercedes-Benz have a Premium Leather Package (top grain hide, use Leatherique or Connolly Hide Care) coated leather and MB-Tex (Vinyl)

Thanks Jon for your most informative reply on the various types of leather surfaces! I will try Griot's Leather Care.

The Premium Leather is coated in my 2004 SL500. Water will just sit there. Leatherique works great on Aline or nappa.

I will be at a Leatherique demo in April on April 22 in Raleigh, NC.
