Is the leather clear-coated or not?

Is the leather clear-coated or not?
Called MB in Montvale and questioned a tech guy about my leather in my 2005 E320 CDI.( Driver Adaptive seats, full leather ) In another place on this forum it was mentioned that it was probably clearcoated. The MB guy said the leather was not clearcoated. He recommended a McGuairars product to protect it. You hate to be a sceptic, but based on past experience, most of these " tech " guys haven't gone deep enough into the subject to really know. If there is any other information that anyone has about this, please post it. It would be silly to be putting leather conditioner on a vinyl surface, over leather. Thanks.

i don't ever see why leather would be clearcoated. It is not clear coated to any of my knowledge. to clean it use Meguiars ( what he probably meant ) here is the cleaner and the conditioner, both great products.

Clearcoated or not?
I received a reply from MB on my question to them about whether the seats in my 2005 E Class were clearcoated. THEY ARE NOT. Thanks for the input about care.

Covered Leather (Urethane, Vinyl or MB-Tex):
Since late ‘80s early ‘90s 85% of vehicle manufacturers have used covered leather for their interior upholstery. It’s made from natural hides, but uniquely treated with a light pigmented urethane resin coating or a vinyl covering to make it more viable for automotive seating. It retains the softness of natural top-grain leather but resists fading in direct sunlight, leathers worst enemy
Spills wipe off with a moistened cloth, the urethane resin or the vinyl covering require oils to stop it from drying out (just like a paint system's clear coat) the leather also requires replacement of natural oils. Clean, condition and apply a UVR protection as in items 1, 2 & 3 on page 2.
Identifying characteristics- uniform colour and grain patterns; will not scratch easily; water drops will not change colour.
Recommended products-
•Urethane Coated Leather- use Groit's Leather Care
Vinyl or MB-Tex Covered leather- use Groit's Leather Rejuvenator or Leatherique Prestine Clean
Note: Lexus LS430 and SC430 have uncoated leather. All Lexus made before the 2001-2004 revamp have coated leather. Mercedes-Benz have a Premium Leather Package (top grain hide, use Leatherique or Connolly Hide Care) coated leather and MB-Tex (Vinyl)
Note: Connolly Leather Hide Care, this product may not be compatible with covered leather and could damage the urethane.
