Newbie here...Mothers products?

I've been browsing the forum for a bit of time now and know you all recommend different products (Zaino, etc.) and types of towels (microfibers from different stores, etc.) but I was just curious as to what were your thoughts on this car wash kit from Costco. Has anyone used Mothers products before?

It'll be my first time really washing a car (I used to just take my civic to be washed.) I know that sounds so lame and ditzy , but I want to do it right the first time. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a decent buy for what you're getting. Not sure how the quality is of the MF Towel though. You should def use Zaino stuff. They're awsome! Can i borrow your Costco card?

Should I just get a zaino kit from their website instead then? Is that kit pretty good on the zaino website?

The only time I ever waxed my civic, I didn't really know how to do it, so the wax got all hard on me and got stuck! I've been scared to wax ever since that time. Now, however, I think I will try to do it on my MB but using all of the tips that I read in the forums so far. =)

Lisa,

If you are in southern california, i would suggest that you spend one saturday morning in Irvine. Meguiars has a weekly event were you learn the ins and outs of detailing. They don't try to shove their product down your throat, but they give sound advice regardless of brand you choose to buy. I am sure there are lots of "guys" on this forum who would be happy to take you down there one of these days.

Best of all its free, and they even serve you some bomb-a$$ pizza and drinks.

The Meguiar's clinic is an excellent suggestion. I learned how to detail by attending some MBCA tech sessions and talking with owners at car shows.

My preference is to use Meguiar's polishes and follow up with Mothers carnuba wax in a paste form, though I've heard great things about Zaino as well.

It doesn't matter where you get the Zaino stuff. Zaino products are great! That's what i've been using (although not lately because i don't have time too much work) for about 3-4yrs now. Good stuff. I've never been to the Meguiars clinic but i've seen some pics and it looks like a good learning experience. If you're going let me know and maybe we can caravan or something.

Zaino

Hello

I bought Zanio for the first time a month ago and let me tell ya it's one of the best out there. I'm use to use Eagle One, Mothers and others out i the retail stores but nothing compares to Zaino. It was easy to apply, easy to take off and it shines like glass. People are always asking me what I use and I get so many stares and compliments.

I bought the ZFX, Z2 and Z6.

Every Saturday there is a car club representing. Sign up on that site. Mike Philips is the moderator/administrator of the site.

http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/

I'm sure that they are more than welcomed to join any club any week, so long as they are not completely filled. You might feel out of place being with a bunch of corvette guys, but a smile may go a long ways.

Zaino is good stuff. Pricey in my opinion, but takes alot of time to prep.

I converted to Meguairs because of costs, and ease of product. Both companies make great stuff.

As a noobie, I would get the following:

Car Wash Soap (do not use dish detergent)
High Quality Wash Mitt
Grit Guard for the inside of your wash bucket
Absorber (synthetic chamois)
Paint Cleaner like ScratchX
Pure Polish like Deep Crystal Polish
Car Wax like NXT Tech Wax
Detailing Clay and Quik Detailer (lubricant)
Vinyl Conditioner/Protectant (something silicone free)
Leather Cleaner/Conditioner/Protectant (I personally dont use Meguairs leather products)
Tire dressing like Hot shine
Microfiber towels to wipe off/down wax and polish

The biggest complaint people have is swirls:

yep, do any of you know that number? i lost the paper but yea, just be kind and you will be fine. i actually went to the detail day ( i think like in june ) and it was the bimmerforums.com day. i was completely out of place and i parked right in the middle of all their cars... hehehe. their cars were nice but mine could not compete ( 87' 300e ) so i guess that why they didn't want to race or anything. the free test on all the products is great. just ask in the forum if you can go. Mike Phillips asked me if i could go because i had some stained wheels and he wanted to see what products could fix it. ( stains came from black magic wheel cleaner, it said safe for all wheels and it didn't even say to test in an inconspicuous area. i sure gave them a piece of my mind )

Sorry guys, but one more question. I was wondering at this class, do we actually was our car or do they go over how to do it.

How long does the class generally take? Is it an all day thing?

well preferably the car has been pre washed because Mike Phillips, the man who demonstrates everything and teaches the class, demonstrates the products on a persons car. Preferably a dark colored car which has many swirls or such. He will not work on a car which is covered in mud or dust. what they did when i was there was work on a black bmw. it was washed before we went there ( on his own ) and most of us ( like 12 or so ) he asked us to help clean the car, so he gave us all clay and some quik detailer just to start off with nothing on the car. he then proceeded to work on the hood of the car. This is mainly a detailing class, moreover how to get the minor/major imperfections off of the car with polishing. But you can just ask him and he will most likely tell you the correct answer. Have fun there, you will love it.

Starts at 8:30 and continues on til 1:30ish. Then you are more than welcomed to stay and try virtually any meguairs product on your car. I know alot of people stay until they have completely detailed their cars. Mike Phillips will stay as long as he can because his drive is well over 2hrs far.
