how to clean buttons on stereo, steering wheel?

Just got a 2002 C230K Coupe, and the previous owner must've been a mad cassette enthusiast, as only the tape button and the steering wheel volume-up button are visible filthy. I apologize for the fuzzy focus of these pics, but I was doing about 70 at the time. What's a good solvent/cleaner to put on a swab to clean these parts? Also, you might be able to make out a little scratch to the left of the +, where light is leaking thru. Any fix for that?

Meguiars has this 3 in 1 brush about the side of toothbrush. It gets in the nooks and crannies. Use the mildest cleaner that will do the job. I use Meguiars #40 vinyl cleaner or their interior quick detailer spray. Simple green maybe too harsh for an interior, specially the way most people use it without diluting it like the instructions say to do.

If your car is in warranty, have the dealer replace the buttons for the scratch/seperation of buttons. But I am guessing you are not. Those buttons are pretty pricey too if you want to replace them for the scratch.
