Question To wax or not to wax a brand new car

Hello everyone.

I have been following this forum for quite a while now while I am waiting for my brand new 2003 C230K. The long wait will be over soon, the expected delivery of my car is mid-september.

I have searched the forum but could not find an answer to this question: When I get the car, should I wait before I wax the car? What I mean by that is does the paint need to "cure" or "harden", or can it be waxed right away?

Thanks for your replies!

My advice would be to get your waxing products lined up now and plan to attack the car within a week or so (or as soon as you can). By doing so, you can likely avoid the finish cleaning steps (claybar, etc) that you may need to do if you wait several months.

I wish I had done this sooner, myself. ZAINO is great, BTW.

I see revstriker pointed u in the right direction bob, . Anyway, I would clay a brand new car, I feel you should do this for the best results, however it is not completely needed.

Advice I have received (for new paint and after repair painting....don't ask) was to let the paint outgas for 60 days after painting. On a new car, much of that 60 days is taken up in transit from Germany, but you may want to check your build date or just the month (on the drivers door jam) to be sure.

Wax has a way of sealing the paint to not allow proper outgassing of some of the volitiles. 60 days is enough to allow this outgassing.
