Feel of Paint

Question to all:

I just detailed my car last weekend. The whole 9, wash, clay, klasse aio, klasse sealant x 3, caranuba x 2. Looks like a mirror.

However, I noticed one spot I didn't notice the last time I detailed my car (6 months ago.) It's not necessarily a spot, but a small area (about 1 inch by 2 inch rectangle.) If you run your hand along the body, the body is smooth as silk. Once you go over this area, it feels not smooth. Not rough as in gritty, pre-clay rough, nor smooth, but like there was no paint there, or like someone ran over it with sandpaper. You can also see it if you look at an angle, you will see the body all shiny, except that small spot. I tried waxing or polishing it but to no avail.

Anyone?

i agree with poch, maybe give some AIO a try again? is the paint dull in that spot? has there been body work done on the panel?

I had this problem on the amg plastic side sills.

I was able to remove it with MB tar remover, then polish.

1) On the front left quarterpanel, right near where the door meets the quarterpanel, but on the lower part of the quarterpanel,

2) No bodywork done,

3) I tried going over it with AIO and wax but it seems to glide over it and not stick. The paint there is dull, but still silver, that little 1x2" area (even smaller I think.)

Sorry what is a quarterpanel?

It has only happened on plastic, and worked with the MB tar remover. I guess you can try on a small area.

Weird, I'd take it to the dealer and tell them what you found, let them look at it and they might explain, or first take it to a paint shop and get their opinion.

Pinnacle clay and Pinnacle wax spray...it seems like it's something maybe splattered onto it? I went over it several times with the clay, AIO, caranuba, but nothing goes, they all just glide across it.

I'm gonna try to bug/tar remover, then go to a body shop and see what the deal is. Last resort, I'll drive up to Boston, get some dinner at Anthony's Pier 4 and show you the car AlBoston.
