Thoughts on 3M paint protection

I would love to hear opinions on using 3M clear plastic paint protection products. I am ready to have it applied to the front bumper and wheel wells of my 05 S500 AMG.

What's the downside?

Don't go with 3M film, as the glue they use yellows after a while. You should definately go with Venture tape. If you are in California, I highly recommend Premier Mobile Group. They are the BEST installers of this stuff, and they use the best material, and warranty their work for life. They've done almost every exotic car out there: Bugatti Veyron, Mercedes SLR, Lambo LP640, Ferrari Enzo, etc.....

Thank you for your comment. My local guy (Phila area) is recommending Xpel which he claims is smoother than 3M. He installs both. My car is Pewter so discoloration, although very important to me, is not as great an issue. I think I'll go through with it.

I can't agree with the previous comment. We have 3M film of my wife's 350Z. It has not discolored after almost two years. And it's as smooth as glass. Maybe there are different grades? Don't know.

Honest opinion or merely advertising? Commercialism brings with it concerns of honesty and true representation. In other words, it’s difficult to know what is true when someone is motivated by income, i.e. directly targeted at product sales, more so than an unbiased opinion
