sticky residue

sticky residue
I have the E-500 sport with black maple interior trim. On the console (lower dash area) when I bought the car was some stupid red and yellow warning sticker about something or other (the same kind you find on the inside of your sun visors).
I peeled it off, but it left a sticky residue. In the past, on less fragile items, I've used goo gone or whatever.
What I want to know, are these cleaners safe on the heavily shellaced veneered wood or will they stain or discolor it?

After confirming that the wood has polyerethane as a coating, denatured alcohol will work. The Porsche board I monitor even uses alcohol on their sunvisors. Just be conservative and use only as much as you need. Be careful not to scratch the trim when you wipe, as it happens pretty easily.
