Removing Overspray???

Hi, I have a 1990 mercedes benz 300 se and b/c the car was laying outside a body shop for about 2 years and it has a good amount of overspray on it...what should I remove it with??? I was thinking wax and grease remover or some laquer thinner. My dad who is an expert body man said we might be able to use laquer thinner but it could damage the paint...I might just repaint the whole car b/c I'm going to paint the whole nose anyway...thanks for any info

You could try a clay bar. It's been said that it removes overspray...

Definitely give clay a try first... order a couple different clays since some are more aggressive than others.

I have no experience with clay bar. Might be great.

I would try Polishing Compound. It comes in a round can like Rubbing Compound but has a much finer grit. If the car has been sitting outside for a long time the paint is probably pretty oxidized and you'll have to take off some paint to get the color back.

Lacquer thinner? Yes, if you plan to repaint immediately.

lacquer i believe will remove older paints like from the 60-to early 80's but it should be okay on this car

I would def try a clay bar, it's not expensive and it's worth testing a panel with clay followed by a compound to see what results you get. I had some overspray from a front bumper respray and used a finer clay bar and it worked well, you should go for a more heavy duty bar. Only thing is, if your car has been pounded by 2 years worth of overspray, chances are it's going to need to be stripped back i.e. respray!!

Mine was only a light overspray and the clay removed the surface "roughness" which I then followed up with a Farecla G3 compound to get the paint finish back. Then Sealant.

Good luck!

I've tried removing overspray with a clay bar before and it works great. I did create a few minor scratches, but it was easily polished away.
