Unhappy Keyed Car!

My parents just had their M class keyed!

I feel so bad for them and they were wondering how much it would cost to have it fixed... and what the options were to fixing it.

They said it was through to the metal... which as far as i know requires a repaint of the keyed panels. Is this correct?

How much would a paint job like this cost?

Thanks!

Russ

ps- I figured I would post this on this section of the board because I posted here before... I figured painting would not be much different between models.

Usually, if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, you have no option but to repaint. However, whether or not to repaint would also depend on the length of the scratch. Sorry, to hear about your parent's ML. I have absolutely no sympathy for vandals.

Needs to be repainted. Should run about $750....make sure it's a body shop that uses Sikkens paint. This is OEM Mercedes paint.

There are new methods for Key Scratch repairs nowadays. Worth checking into. Here is one of the many companies offering such repair.

EdS320, I posted an inquiry about Chipsaway recently, but very few people seem to have heard about them. Do you have any experience with them or some of the other companies doing this type of repair?

I have no experience with them. In Atlanta, GA there are a few specialty companies that repair only door dings and scratches, with a guarantee! And do it for auto dealers. I see the vans on the road. With advancements in paint and body repairs today I would investigate such repair techniques and see some jobs before I had my car repainted. Silver is hard to work with but some colors should do very well. What if the vandal strikes again after a repaint?! I would give it a year and repaint if such a repair is noticeable.
