Oil/Tar Specs

That time of the year in the midwest for road resurfacing...oil & chip, new blacktop/asphalt, etc. Wife must have went through a fresh patch somewhere. Wheels & side of car are full of small/medium specs of oil/tar. What is the best way to remove these spots? I know that mineral spirits, gasoline or the like will easily remove them, but at what price to the finish?

I use a bug and tar remover. It's time consuming and fiddly once the tar has dried, and you will need to re-wax and maybe re-polish. Make sure that there aren't little bits of grit stuck on before you start rubbing. You will have to pick those off first.

Soften them with bug and tar remover before using a clay bar. Make sure you refresh the bar often and toss it out when you are done. Wax thoroughly.
