New wash cloth

Well, not new, just new way of using a very very old cloth. It would not scratch and its super soft. It would not leave lint or tear off easily. It is the most gentle and flexibly tough cloth most widely available (and freely) everywhere, even if you forget to bring one on vacation and would like to clean the car.

Thought I'd share this. I've used it twice before this post.

This is relevant for car that has paint sealant/wax/polymer done. Wheels been protected as well. Can be used with unprotected car as well but may not be as effective.

For me, I use only water, no soap or shampoo or whatever. Just plain water as I have poly sealant on the paintwork and wheel protectant. I use RainX, waterbottle addictive for the windscreen.

The new old cloth is SOCKS, yes good old socks for your feet, especially the ones that is used to keep your feet warm in winter. The ones with fluffy insides. Better still if you have long socks, like the ones that goes up to the calf of leg.

I get my used clean socks. Get about 6 of them. Get more if its thin less if thick. Buy new ones if desired.

Turn them inside out. Make two sets of 3. Now wear 1 set on your washing hand. Wear the 3 socks on top of each other. Stretch them up your arms if you have the long socks.

Why two sets, 1 for cleaning the glass, body and top of bumper. 2nd set for underside of door, bumper and wheels (and wheel wells).

I usually pre spray the car with the nozzle to get rid of loose dirt/fine sand. Wash as usual.

Now the good part with the socks, With the long socks up your arm, you have a long area to wash with especially the roof, if anyone is like me a shorty, 5.5" Also you can squeeze the tip of the sock with your finger push it into the joints and crevices. Now, how many of you doing that and it falls away from your hand onto the floor because of the weight of a wet cloth. The sock would not fall of!

The other good thing is, sock textile is designed to be slow liquid absorbent (the winter ones). So any oily residue that it grabs, it is easily hosed off. A little like the yellow 3M always clean washcloth.

You know that the sock is gentle when you encounter a little tree sap that is stuck onto the paint and it would not take it off. Just have to wet it more and let the water soften it for the sock to remove it without leaving any marks on the paint or take off the sealant.

Once done washing windscreen and body, change to the other set. Now go ahead and wash the underside of door/bumper and wheels and stainless steel exhaust tips. Hose of excess dirt on socks.

Now the best part..

Our hands and finger are the most controllable and versatile in terms of tight spots.

If you have thin hands, and the wheel spokes are far apart, like 5 spoke wheels, you can squeeze you whole hand into the wheel well to clean it. Your back hand and arm (if the socks are long) is also a cleaning tool. You can clean the back of the spokes and the brake calipers too.

Remember, I mention to layer 3 socks..

Due to the sock's elasticity, this 3 layers of socks will protect your hand and arm from being nicked by the sharp edges of the brake clips and metal rotor protectors. You can clean them to your hearts content without blood as a cleaning agent.

Once done washing, you still have clean hand without the usual black oily stuff under fingernails or on your skin.

Dry with your favorite cloth.

So there, the best new old wash cloth ever invented. Njoy...
