Abrasives vs Non Abrasives: a tale of two technologies

As we wind into the final quarter of 2014 it has been become more evident that people are looking for ways to avoid introducing unnecessary abrasive damage to their cars paint.
Until recently micro scratches in the paint were accepted as part of the cost of buffing and stripping wax on and off a car.
Now as people begin to focus more closely on the side effects suffered by the paint, many look for alternative methods of preserving rather than covering the factory finish on their cars.
The internet search engines are used to track down the latest offering in Non abrasive car care.
New products are not always received well as they are perceived as threats to the status quo.
One revolutionary advancement was the glaze.
Introduced in the early 70s as Astro Shield.
It surpassed wax technology by leaps and bounds.
By the time the Internet arrived Astro Shield had become NU Finish and the wax detail forums treated it's its existence like a unwanted freak of nature that no respectable detailer would use.
The next revolutionary advancement came In the 2007, the acrylic paint conditioner.
Far surpassing waxes ability to preserve the paints finish and vaulting past the glaze in its non abrasive liquid formula and self leveling application.
VaporWax was a new reality and it became a flashpoint topic with old schoolers on the one side and a new generation of detailers on the other.

What the new generation understands better than the old schoolers is the damage abrasives can do on a microscopic level.
Redundant repeated buffing and stripping of wax from paint offers no benefit to the paint. It is important to avoid abrasives when possible to insure the longest reflective life of the paint.

Some old schoolers are like old dogs "you can't teach them new tricks", and they will hold on to what they know like a dog to his bone. Others realize adaptation is the key to survival and will quietly adopt new technology as it appears.

Time is another factor that the new generation respects,
it is the one thing that we cannot replace,
Why waste a hour performing a job that will create negative results due to the nature of abrasives and buffing when the same job can be done safely without negative abrasives an excessive buffing in minutes?

Old schoolers seem to have no concept of the value of time unless they are charging you by the hour.
Automotive detailing was once considered a skill of craftsmen has now become a relic of a bygone past.

Advancement in paint technology, new concepts in paint care and the rising value of time has made many of us focus on the details.

Keep your vehicle looking its best longer by avoiding abrasive contact and unnecessary buffing.
