Leather vs Non-Leather

Is there an easy way to tell leather and non-leather on interior car surfaces apart? Can leather cleaner/conditioner be used on non-leather surfaces and vice versa safely?

Thanks

It won't hurt to put leather conditioner on a non-leather surface, but it won't soak in so may leave a residue. But you don't really want to put stuff you might put on vinyl or plastic on leather. As for telling the difference, this will sound stupid, but it's pretty easy if you know the difference. Leather just has a different feel and sheen to it, and it has pores in it under magnification, and most non-leather has a pebbled surface and the pebbles are uniform. On seats, you can tell leather from MB tex by pressing in with your index finger. Leather will form tiny wrinkles around the tip of your finger, but MB tex will be smooth like pressing on a trampoline.
