Thousands of little "dots" on the front windshield
Sorry if this has been covered already (I searched and couldn't find my exact issue).
My SL55 has thousands of little dots on the windshield when driving directly into the sunlight. I tried a clay bar on the window but it made zero difference.
Has anyone solved this without replacing the windshield?
Thanks for your help.

Same Problem
I have the same problem. When driving into the sun, I can barely see out the windshield. The dots and lines cannot be removed. I am still under warranty. Hope there is no problem with M-B.

It's pits, common for Mercs and BMW's. The glass used is softer so it does not suffer from stone chips but it pits or gets cloudy. Bon Ami powder which is recommended by BMW works well for the cloudy windshields, it helps a little with pitted ones by cleaning out the pits which makes them less noticeable. I tried Klasse sealant on my w209 and it did help a little, I think by filling the pits.

There is no way to repair the windshield and M-B will not replace under warranty. Crappy deal. My car is less than two-years old. The dealer in Boise claimed I had pits all over my car (not). They are like dealing with early Neanderthals still living on figs and dried nuts. My auto insurance company thought the windshield was so dangerous, they replaced it.
The only way to ensure your windshield does not get damage is to drive the car with its car cover still on.
