Is ZFX/Z1 needed?

Hello to all. Great site and community. I frequent MBworld often to read up on the cars. Currently, I own an Onyx IS300 5spd.

To get to my question, I am out of ZFX (my brothers seem to see that the Zaino products work great and help themselves). I was planning to apply a fresh coat (by fresh I mean stripping the previous layers of wax off first with dish detergant) of Z2 this morning, but wasn't sure if it is okay to use the Zaino without the ZFX or Z1 Locs. Some have told me it will just take longer to dry, and the Z2/Z5 will work just the same on their own. Thanks for the help.

Z1 or ZFX every few applications

Regarding the Z1, you don't need to use it each and every time - it is used to help the products bond. So I typically use it about 3 times a year. If you are just layering the Zaino you won't need it each time.

You will need the ZFX if you want to use multiple coats in a short period of time. It aids not only drying but curing as well.

Thanks! So even though this is an initial layer of Zaino going down (all other wax buildup will be removed and the car clayed) it should layer just fine, correct?

Update

I mis-understood you and thought you had Zaino on the car already since others had helped themselves to your stash. If this is the first layer (coat) you need to wash/clay/wash again with blue dawn before you start with the Zaino. First time is work but the next rounds after this are much faster.

Yes the first round on a 'fresh' car does require either the Z1 or ZFX because that first coat has to be bonded properly. If you don't have all that you need I would wait to do the job as the durability and results may not be worth the effort.

Good Luck,

JR

Z1 or ZFX IS REQUIRED for the 1st coat if you are going to caly and strip.

Without ZFX or Z1, Z2 will not propertly bond and will be very short lived.
