It's ALWAYS a good idea to cover your car when you can (unless it's garaged). All kinds of nasty particulate matter floating throught the air, just waiting to attack your paint.

~One man’s opinion / observations ~

Car Cover:
Protect your investment with a car cover, outdoors, car covers offer unequalled protection against (UV) ultra-violet radiation, acid rain, pollution, bird excrement, tree sap and wind blown debris. Used for long-term vehicle storage, in the garage, car covers protect against accidental scratches and dings from passers-by, car doors, lawn mowers, sporting equipment, bikes and pets.

To lessen the effects of heat build-up the best thing to do is to lower your side windows about two inches. Ambient temperature builds inside enclosed spaces, and if you open the windows slightly you'll allow air to circulate, just like it circulates under the cover. Some fabrics offer more heat insulation than others, simply because they are multi-layered and are more effective at keeping heat away from the vehicle surface, but any cover will help reduce the vehicle temperature on a hot day.

Periodically protect the cover from ultra violet radiation (UVR) by lightly spraying the surface with a UV protecterant while the cover is on the ca, to wash the car cover follow the manufactures instructions.

Yes....even cover it if you are in a garage. If in doubt.....look at your finish after a few days uncovered in the garage.

I found that after the car is freshly washed, it's good to left it dry thoroughly before covering. The water trapped in the small crevises and cracks evaporates under the cover or gets trapped under the elastic band, a definite problem.

Allow me to add to my earlier answer a bit. If you have a black car, I would suggest garaging it, and covering with a light flannel sheet (got this idea from Autopia)... and avoid the cover if at all possible.

Reason is that I have found that even to most cautious removal and placement of the cover (custom Mercedes cover) on my black CLK causes micromarring. This makes me very angry and causes me to kick small animals.

To place car cover on vehicle; start by placing the rolled-up cover on the centre of the roof,
Unroll from the middle to the rear of vehicle and then middle to front, unroll left side and then right using mirror ‘pockets’ (if fitted) Ensure that cover is ‘tight’ and attach cable and lock (if required) Remove from vehicle opposite to the above and store dry cover in duffle storage bag (if supplied)

I've used car covers outside in all conditions and for long-term indoor vehicle storage and I've yet to have problems with the car cover marring the surfaces, but this is I feel totally dependant upon the material and how well it fits the vehicle

~Hope this helps~
