Replace Rear License Plate Brackets?

Hi!
I've got a 2004 e320 wagon. Screws will not stay in the rear license plate and it's about to fall off. Looks like some of the receiving bolts embedded inside the hatchback door may have been knocked loose, guys at the shop say they'll have to take apart the rear panel to find the bolts and put them back in ($$$). Has anyone had this issue? Is this something I can do myself at home?

Thanks!

Well. . . if the inside nut is gone, you could use a plastic screw anchor like the ones used to put screws into sheetrock walls. All you have to do is to measure the diameter of the hole in the panel and go the hardware store to find one just a bit larger than that. Press the plastic fastener into the hole and thread a sheet metal screw into it.
