150,000 mile 2003 E270cdi

I'm coming up to 150,000 miles (purchased Oct 03), Running mint and getting quicker, had loads of comand/phone software problems at first, but all sorted now. Had to have a new Autobox at 90,000 miles (Vibration in 4/5 between 50-60 MPH). I'm doing 95% Motorway miles, but still only get between 11,000 to 13,000 miles service intervals!!!

Welcome aboard the Diesel forums.. Glad you figured out how to post the pics!

AMAZING to think you have a CDI with that many miles on it! How on God's earth do you drive so many miles in the UK in such a short time?

Are you using any kind of additive? Redline? Lubro-Moly?

Also, you mentioned before you replaced your automatic transmission.. Did you ever service that transmission? Or did you just let it run to the ground?

I am told by replacing fluids and filters every 20K you can double it's life!

Thanks for your warm welcome..

I drive/live in the car about 13-15 hours a day. I work for a company called Sytner (we are part of the UnitedAuto Group/Penske) I'm the Groups Volvo buyer..buying around 600 used Volvo/BMW/Mercedes etc etc a year.... I know driving a Mercedes, but we own 13 Mercedes Dealers in the UK and the Mercedes has a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty and is better on company car tax and me!!

Servicing... Having 13 Mercedes dealers and being a company car..its seviced on time (every 11-13,000 miles) and being 'in House' nothing is missed. Bills are normally four figures a time... I am on my 3rd brake fluid change and have just had the 15th year Coolant change!!

No additives are used just Mobil 1 oil

The Gearbox fault at 90,000 miles was coolant leaking into the torque convertor. Apparently Mercedes UK know of the problem.. A sample of G/Box fluid was sent away for testing and was found to have engine coolant in it and bits of a poorly torque convertor.

Cool Job.. I would love a job like that... how do I get it?

I worked in new/used cars for 2 years back in the early 90's... interestingly I sold Volvo.. which I also drive now. Great cars, though a shadow of their former self.. The venerable 960 was my last "REAL VOLVO"

United is huge here too.. they have a mega dealership in North Scottsdale with more than 350 million invested, selling Volvo, Jag, BMW, Audi, VW, Porsche, Bentley, Aston, Acura and Landrover. They also house a large F1 car museum here.. Amazing.

I am working on making contacts with their people as I have a family member interested in buying into a dealership or two..

Do you know people in the US?

I am a small fish in a big lake, when it comes to our Group.... but you can email your address and I will send you the Groups Magazine, which lists the 'whos who' it should useful.

"Real Volvos".... we could say that about Mercedes.. I used to export Mercedes to the far east, buying hundreds of 100,000++++miles cars without driving them or even starting them up first!!!

You didn't need Forums for W124's and W129's.... only until the W210 came out!!

So very true! I lament the death of "the way they used to make 'em"

All Diesel Fleet !1983 240d stick,2005 E320 CDI Midnight blue, 2005 E320 CDI, Desert Silver, Kubota
The way they used to make them!

That's why I still have my original midnight blue 240 D, stick shift. Got 329,000 miles out of the first engine, which was still running okay, but dripping and burning oil. I put a new( mb rebuild in Deutchland) engine in and had rust in fenders cut out and replaced. New paint job. I can beat most people off the stop light for the first 12 feet. And, I can smoke my cigars in this car, not my 05 CDI!!!!

Wow Jimbo! Didn't know you had a venerable 240D.. you need to post/send me some pics of that!

I love those cars! I love the smell the had... the new MB's just don't have that smell like the old ones..
