look out for...?
im looking to buy a 1983 300sd this will be my first desiel. i need to know what to look out for. it has 200000 miles to the eye its in good shape but what lies below... give me a heads up

1981 300SD TurboDiesel, 1982 300D TurboDiesel
The 1983 300SD is a W126, this is what I'd do.
Make sure the 0-60 time is somewhere between 13-15 sec., have a compression test done, a full pre purchase check by a Mercedes-Benz mechanic, and here's some checklists to look at when you look at a W126 and a diesel. The first link is for a W123 diesel, but some of the info is applicable to the W126 300SD.
