Urea?
MB is bringing the E320 CDI for 2007 and it's going to use SCR for emissions control. The thing with that is that SCR requires urea. In europe, they have urea filling stations. Do you know how that's going to work in the US since we dont have that infrastructure? MB calls its SCR system Bluetec. Any idea on who supplies the SCR system to them?

Urea at MB service
In order to use urea injection, the EPA requires so means of verification that the tank is being refilled. I assume there will be a warning light and some form of recommended service. I will try and locate the EPA presentation on SCR which basically focussed on what is required for SCR to be 'effective' and meet EPA compliance for Tier 2 bin 5.

I could be mistaken, but
i do not think the e320 bluetec for the NA market is the one with the urea filter...i believe they showed the e320 bluetec at detroit without and the GL320 bluetec WITH...
i know it would not yet be practical for NA to have urea in vehicles...even though the claim is that the dealer can service (there are simply some people who never return after the initial sale, even for service)...

2005 E320 CDI
there is an interesting aticle in the current issue of Road and Track in the Tech Tidbits section. They talk about the high performance 5 series diesel but also mention that the U.S. EPA is very concerned about whether people will service these Urea injection systems. I am sure the manufactures are going to have to do all kinds of warnings ect to placate the EPA.
On another note the Mercedes representative at the Houston International Auto Show that I spoke with said that all the new MB diesels for the US will have to have these systems.
