CDI power loss
Hi all,
Just wanted to keep all the fellow CDI'rs posted on a recent development with my 05 CDI. Starting about 31K I have developed power loss that seems to be intermittent. It's in the shop right now and will let you know what unfolds. It seems as though when acceleratang between 20-50 mph, there is absolutley no power even if I press on it fully. Very frustrating as it seems as though I have had numerous problems but still love the car. Go figure Any ideas on what this may be? Turbo/EGR/ cracked hose? etc...

I had the exact same problem. The car converted to "limp home" mode as described in the owner's manual. If I stopped, turned the car off/on, the problem went away. At any rate, it was repaired and I believe it was and EGR issue.

Update
Heard back from my SA. Definitely was the EGR but also for those who have followed my CDI history also found another leak that they have to clamp. Frustrating but I'm relatively calm at this moment

Good Feedback
Thanks for keeping us informed about a problem and its' solution. Too many times we hear about problems on this forum, but after it is fixed, members don't tell us how.

we can even invite rjm, though he's not a MB fan anymore, at least he's a fellow pilot..
btw.. rjm, MB (along with Toyota & Lexus) have revised their thinking on transmissions, they now recommend fluid and filter flush ever so often, and no longer want us to believe they'll last for ever... Over time & miles the fluid will degrade.. Don't know if it would have saved your W210, but many other automakers with long (life time) intervals have had problems as well.

This was well-known to Mercedes but they ignored it, preferring to fix it on a piecemeal basis rather than issuing a recall. Sad but true.

Fluid and Winter meeting and EGR valves
Hi Sam. Still would love to have a winter meeting, but we can hold it in a phone booth unless some people respond!
Also, my fluid was $9.50 a litre from my Benz dealer who gives me a substantial discount. I think the over the counter price is $16.50 a litre. I heard the 7G transmission fluid will be 1/2 that price. It can be used in a 5G transmission, but the 5G fluid cannot be used in the 7G transmission.
And finally, since so many EGR valves are failing, why doesn't MB issue a recall and put in ones that don't fail?

I heard the 5G fluid is more expensive because it's better... made to last longer, etc.. I chose to use the 5G fluid, and the total cost of the flush was about $300.. not bad at all for a once in a 2 year item.

Transmission Flush pricing
I supplied the shop with the BG machine with 16 litres of fluid, which is the amount they use to completely flush the transmission. They charged the following: $36-BG flush kit( a solvent that takes away deposits)
88- Labor
I supplied 16 litres @9.50 for $152
Total cost $276

but you're sure it's the ATF for the 5G in the CDI that retails for $25 or so?
