Greasecar

I'm planning on doing a greasecar conversion over the summer...and I have begun the search for cars to do it on.

It seems (from looking at the greasecar boards) that MB's from the mid 80's are the most popular due to their reliability and size.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience converting an MB diesel to run on veggie oil, and if they could recommend one model over another for the project. I know trunk space for an extra tank is a consideration, so I assume at least a 300 series

thanks

I currently drive a 1991 350 SD with 5000 miles on a new engine, and I am planning on converting it to a greasecar within the next month as the price of fuel is very high here in Belize. As soon as I do this I will let you know how it went and what to do. I am also wondering if I can use sweet light crude oil in my car as the oil we are producing here in Belize is comprised of 45- 50% pure diesel.

I have a 1980 300 SD. I don't run on straight veggie oil (SVO), but process it into biodiesel first. Works great and is cheap (.65/gal). I bought a conversion kit from www.greasewerks.org. The kit was only a few precut Viton hoses of the proper diameter and a handful of clamps, but it came with a good set of instructions which were well worth the price.

Here is one MB conversion I did. And it's a single-tank conversion, so it didn't use space in the trunk for the spare tank.
