DaimlerChrysler: Diesel good for America

DaimlerChrysler has said that diesel must play a big part in solving the fuel crisis in the USA.
Loren Beard, Senior Manager - Fuels for DaimlerChrysler, said that, "Diesel will be good for America, and biodiesel makes diesel better."
According to the American government's own figures, if diesel had a 33% share of cars and pick-ups, the U.S. would reduce its oil consumption by up to 1.4 million barrels of oil per day. That would mean it could stop importing oil from Saudi Arabia altogether.

The only problem with biodiesel is that the global supply wouldn't service the needs of Los Angleles. Vegetative production of Palm Oil is a serious problem for demand and looking at used oils and "fillers" made from combination sources (mixtures of oils) may well do the trick.
If I was into speculation I would certainly be looking at Australian and Latino wastelands as future farms.

In England, McD's used cooking oil sells for more than diesel. I think you can safely assume that demand for BD will cause your humble bar of soap to cost more. I find that slightly amusing .... we clean up vehicle emissions only to make washing more expensive.
I liked bio-diesel back when it was an unknown novelty that a tinkerer could make in their garage. Now, like someone pointed out, the veggy oil will quickly be sopped up by the commerical enterprises or the government.
