Anyone have any suggestions on how to safely clean the engine bay on my CDI ? It's getting grimy after 65,000 miles. I have used a citrus based/spray engine cleaner on my other vehicles with a followup light spray of water. I am just a little hesitant on the CDI with all the electronics. Any suggestions ?

Not sure about the new ones... I remember the old days where you could soak it down with engine degreaser, spray off and coat with WD40.
How do you like your CDI? I'm considering a 06 CDI and wasn't sure how the new Bluetec would compare...

I would suggest the 2006 straight six for sure:
1) cheaper
2) easier to service (turbo to one side of engine)
3) durability (iron block)
4) can use ordinary or ultra-low sulphur fuel
5) proven 5 speed transmission
6) less to go wrong with emission control devices (less filters)
7) last chance to drive a "dirty" car (like getting the last king size Oldsmobile 454 cubic inch engine in 1970 without power robbing catalytic converters). When Ad-blue or whatever you call it comes in 2008 diesel heads would have to run around looking for urea to fill their urea tanks.

First, make sure the engine is cold. You don't want to spary water on a warm engine. Cover the electronic components and spay on a degreaser, then rinse with water.

Found this procedure on an Impala SS group.
Engine Cleaning/Detailing by Gary Grant - HOTSS
On a hot/warm engine, spray the entire engine compartment down with Windex.
Close the hood and wait 3-5 minutes.
Open the hood and mist the engine compartment with water. Spray the entire area with ArmorAll.
Close the hood and again wait 3-5 minutes.
Repeat the Windex and ArmorAll applications again.
After the second coating of ArmorAll, close the engine compartment and wash and detail the car.
What this has to do with cleaning the engine compartment I don't understand.
When you're finished, open the hood and wipe down any excess ArmorAll.
I haven't tried this myself.
