Just bought an 81 240D

I'm new to MB's, though I've been into cars all my life. I needed a good family sedan and my father-in-law offered up his "baby", a clean 240D for an unsurpassable sum. So,....... here I am.

After doing some research on this car, my main concern is it's huge lack of ooommph. I want to believe they came with turbos also, so my questions revolve around that. Or any other way to put some pep in the old girl.

I'm sure I'll have more once I get the car here from Boise. Yes, I've never driven it, but I saw it a year ago and it is well cared for. Some might think I'm nuts, but I am a man of faith. And I know that MB doesn't produce lemons. But I'm otherwise just giddy about the whole thing.

It looks just like that one, but it has 250k more miles on it. I have some information on it, but I'll get a better look at it once I get it home. That's my first goal. And yes it is a manual transmission.

I couldn't resist a little sarchasm. So don't take it personally.

It just makes a guy wonder what he's got when the first thing he starts hearing is people making a play for the item. I fell for this recently and got the short end of the stick in the deal. Just leaves me uneasy, that's all.

So tell me, what's the pros and cons of this car. I'm a MB rookie, but I am a ***** for knowledge, especially about what I drive. I do know that these cars are considered a LAPC in the middle east. So what else is up with them?

Thanks for the info.

Wink to coyote

i hope no harm was made between us with my coment, yes of course my car has rust but im not a man that really cares about looks, about my car that is. Yes i would love to fix the rust in my car but money is always an issue when your in college!!!! its actully not bad, theres some around both rear wheel wells and some on the front underneath the headlight. But this car is incredible!!! ive had many many cars and this has to be the best for the money. All my others car were stick and had stiff suspension. Yes i hate to admit this but once i was a ricer!!! Not until i discovered volkswagons, audis, and Mercedes, then i realized the germans know what there doing. Car gets 25mpg average, at least 30 on the highway. My dad currently purchased a f350 diesel, and thats when i fell in love with oil. But mostly that sick turbo sound. Now i enjoy the rumble of the diesel and the smell of the oil. I think from now on i will only buy diesel. 230k miles on it. 0-60 in 12 seconds, damn!........What more could i ask for. in my opinion this is the car from the gods
