Refer to my thread in the W204 thread for more information, but yes, it's official.

2008 bluetec

I called an MB dealer yesterday just to learn that ALL bluetec sales in all 50 states will be discont'd for the 2008 models incl SUV. I guess the EPA and MB could not agree on how to ensure refilling of the adblue solutions that would have made the 2008 bluetec California-compliant. Too bad...

Thumbs down Say It Isn't So . .

I for one hope your dealer is completely full of it!

Anyone else hear this also?

I'm shocked to hear this also. I did run across this article, which may be relevant.

I guess it was good to pull the trigger on an '07. Love the car!

There is a retraction in the CNNMoney.com article. According to the article, the Bluetecs will continue to be sold in the current 45 states.

Thumbs up Good News . .

Thanks Alan.

We will still be able to go out-of-state and get a car as we have been forced to do before.

Meanwhile, the guy with their Powerjokes, etc keep on polluting bigtime, and that's okay smog wise. Go figure.

Both of the aforementioned articled are incorrect. The C220 Bluetec is already 50-state legal. The E and others will soon be too. If this dealer was in one of the five retard states, I would guess that he is just ignorant.

I certainly hope that your dealer is misinformed.

To either confirm or debunk your dealer's story, why not call Mercedes-Benz USA Head Office @ (201) 573-0600, ask for Sales and Marketing Dept., and inquire when you might be able to order a 2008 Bluetec from your dealer.

Mercedes, together with VW, Audi and Chysler have invested a lot of development time and money to meet the higher emission standards for all 50 states in order to market diesels under the "Bluetec" label.

It is my understanding that the Bin 5 regulations come into effect for 2009 model year, not 2008. With the adBlue component, all Bluetec versions will be compliant with bin 5 standards.

In any case, my 2008 E320 Bluetec has arrived in Halifax, awaiting rail shipment to Vancouver.

In order to debunk all and everything could you post a link to where this info is available for the general public.

Yes, I know I'm too lazy too google and do it.

I would, except that my source is not the internet...my cousin works for Daimler AG (I will probably be there soon as well).

Not as good as having a cousin at Daimler like Untertürkheim, but...

There's Mercedes official Bluetec Blog at http://www.bluetec.com

which indicates the C220 Bluetec Vision shown in Geneva already complies with Euro 6 which will take effect in 2014. Euro 6 is similar to Tier 2 Bin 5 in the USA.

...posting from Bonn today....

Ever since the AdBlue urea injection was announced, passing CA emissions has not been the issue. The problem has been coming up with a system to guarantee the cars don't run without AdBlue. The post that revived this thread claimed that this still hasn't been resolved, thus the MB diesels will continue to be 45-state cars in 2008.

Do you have information to the contrary?

Alan, your information appears to be confirmed.

I just contacted the Western Region office for MBUSA about his matter.

A spokesperson stated that at the present time only Bluetec SUVs (ML, GL and R Class) will be available as MY2009 (approx. one year from now) in California. The availability of the E320 Bluetec has not yet been confirmed for MY2009.
This means there will be NO MY2008 E320 Bluetecs sold as new vehicles in California .

The contact person @ MBUSA quickly added that 2007 and 2008 E320 Bluetecs could qualify to be brought into California as previously registered vehicles .

So, unfortunately, as you said, " the MB diesels will continue to be 45-state cars for (MY)2008."

But, fortunately for Canadian customers, all four MB diesel models remain available nation-wide.

Note: The car must have 7500+ miles before it can be brought into CA and registered.

Thanks for clarifying the 45-state bluetec availability. When running MB's preowned car search nationwide I noticed quite a few E320s offered between 7 and 12 kmi, all ore or less with the same equipment level, at prices little below or substantially above new (65K from a Ca dealer). Hopefully, cont'd supply in 2008 eases the price "pressure".
