water leak in '83 300D

Hi All,

I've got a 300D with water leak. We pulled the water pump and water pump housing but there are no clear leak paths apparent. There appear to be two possibilities:

(1) where the water pump housing mates to the block. We did not find any gasket on the housing or water jacket port.

(2) a single bolt hole in the block about an inch below the water pump housing. The bolt hole is threaded with the same thread size as the water pump housing but there was no bolt present. No indication as to what -- if anything -- was bolted up to that hole.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....

You mean your water pump is leaking but you cannot find where from?

Did you check the seals at the drive axle? That should be the critical point, after all that is a moving part and water on the other side, oxidizing air on the other.
