Advise - Best oil for W210 E300TD (OM606)

My Service is coming up and I'm reviewing my options.
***Will I do the Service myself or get a Indy garage***

I would really appriciate advsie on best oil and what oil change interval I should practice.

I've heard advise that you should:-

"change the oil every 5000 miles"

and

"Synthetics are good for 10,000-12,000 miles"

Car has 136,000 miles and is in excelent condition. (was fathers now mine).

I intend to keep it running indefinatly.

I would use the Mobil 1 5-40 Turbodiesel oil, although as far as I know it is only available in the US. I would search out a fully synthetic oil that is specifically designed for diesel engines.
