looking at an old diesel G wagen...
hopefully i can pick it up for a hell of a good deal... if it works out, what can i do to get more power out of it? can the injection pump be modified simply for more power?
|
How old is old, and what engine does it have?
|
early 80's.... i don't know too mnay details on it yet. (long story as to how i'm acquiring it). i have yet to even see the truck.
there are different diesels in them? |
A chip will net you gains, rest of the engine and trans will hold up, just don't go too crazy...think no more than 50hp 50tq...:zoom:

a chip works in the old ones? i figured they were all mechanical. that would make it easy then!

This is likely to have the same engine as a 300D, probably non-turbo. You could install a turbo engine from a later 300D car pretty easily. The non-turbo 300D engine cannot have turbo added, as many modifications to the basic engine are required for turbo use. |
i didnt' think the old ones would be electronically controlled but it kinda would be nice! plugnplay boxes are wonderful!
oh well, i guess i'll forget about extra power....i just plan to off road it almost exclusively anyway. |
You can still add the turbo motor.
|
If its an early 80's G, its non-turbo. The only way to add power, reliably, is to exchange a turbo engine and work up from there.
|
But even with the old non-t, it'll still be faster than the king's ride... :D
|
Anyway, if you are going to do mostly offroad I'll be worried about suspenssion, tires, and radiator. Off course if you want to do the Baja 1000, buy a thropy truck!!!
:naughty: |
