Fungi or some other crap?
Ok, so my 82 240D lost power going up hills. I checked the prefilter and it was black.
I changed the prefilter and secondary filter 1.5 months ago (about 2.5 tanks) and now I'm losing power and prefilter is looking blackish.
1) How do I know what is in the pre-filter? Is it fungus that I've read about? Is it just sludge of some sort? Is my tank rusting? Do I just have to try startron and see? I really don't have the capacity to pull-out tank right now.
2) Do I have to change 2nd filter or can I just change prefilter?
2) I have the old screw-down pump primer and it's leaking (unrelated but I thought I'd throw it out there) Any suggestions when I replace?
Another note, I've never worked on cars until recently when I changed those gas filters. Never done an oil change, nada. So I don't have much background.
