1985 Mercedes 300D
Transmission stopped on my 1985 mercedes 300D
The transmission stopped shifting and gets stuck on 1st gear and won't shift into 2nd. I wanted to know if anyone has experienced this and can help me figure out what is wrong with it.

In the absense of of any other advice , you could check the transmission oil level & also see what the transmission oil looks like ie clean & clear or dirty/burnt.

just wanted to mention.. if the issue doesn't directly pertain to the diesel aspects of the car, you will likely receive better answers in the chassis subforum. Every MB Diesel was sold in significant quantities as a non-diesel version. Given that, many of the issues related to the car aren't necessarily specific to the diesel model and will receive more input in the general subforum (in this case, the W123 forum). It might be good to sticky something like this for first time members who come directly to the diesel forum and might not get the exposure or input they desire because of the small user base here.
