I went to the Detroit Auto Show a couple of weeks ago and Mercedes had on display an E Class diesel hybrid which uses 4.1L of fuel per 100 km (which comes out to something like 55 mpg) and which features a combines 270hp and 750 nM of torque (which is about 550 ft lbs).

The guy at the display said that it *will* be sold in Europe but not in the US.

Yikes...55mpg and 550 ft lbs of torque! The US is either Mecedes' most...or second most...important market.Wake up,Mercedes! Bring it here!

Those BMW engines will not be available in the US (at least to current reports). I've gotta say.. I'm feeling mighty jealous in my underpowered bluetec ...
