Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD
New to Forum - Jeep WK CRD

Hello,
I am new to the forum and wanted to say hello and thank everyone that posts info on the om642 engine. I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 3.0L CRD engine currently with 52,000 miles. I think it's a great engine and happy with my purchase. I have owned the vehicle for almost a year and it has given me zero problems. It is my wife’s vehicle so I can’t mod it as much as I would like. I have performed several reliability mods. I have done the Elephant Mod which is venting the CCV to the atmosphere, swirl motor issues. I performed a dpf delete with a Custom Spooling tune. I am enjoying the ~ 2.5mpg gain and additional performance since January. I changed out all the fluids with amsoil fluids. I would like to add an oil-bypass kit and secondary fuel filter. I have owned a modified 2004 Ford F250 since new and that is most of my experience with diesels.
Thanks.

Nice! Welcome. Tell us more about the DPF delete you did via the tuning program.

Thanks. No problem, last year I contacted Custom Spooling to get one of their dpf delete tunes. I did a lot of research on dpf delete tunes and liked what I heard when talking with Custom Spooling. I ordered their handheld tuner and loaded up their dpf and egr delete tune. This tune disables the regneration cycle and keeps the egr valve closed. I made my own dpf delete pipe to replace the dpf pipe incase I want to go back to stock. I removed the dpf sensor tubes, but you need to keep the sensor plugged in. My wife never new at first the Jeep was tuned. It is barely louder than stock, I noticed it, but I was listening for it. I would say it has a little more of that diesel clank sound. The exhaust is still very clean, no black soot on hard acclerations. A little more diesel odor, but not very noticeable.
I plan to run some more 1/4 mile drag times this week now that weather is getting nicer. Stock I ran a 15.8 1/4 mile at 83 mph. The tune has a lot more power, but very linear. The turbo lag is gone compared to stock. I have not dynoed the tune so I can't give an actual power increase. The same tune on a different Jeep GC CRD made:
Stock HP: 152.8
Tuned HP: 206.5
Stock torque (FtLb): 282.8
Tuned torque (FtLb): 348.3
+53.7 HP and +65.5 FtLb

I have been running the Custom Spooling tune since January and finally got some time to play around with my bullydog watchdog. When I bought the vehicle I did some 1/4 mile runs. I got around to looking at my tuned ¼ mile times vs stock. I have an economy/performance Custom Spooling tune. It runs awesome with plenty of power and still rocking a 2.5 mpg gain on city driving. This is my wife’s vehicle, I believe it could be better, but she likes to use the extra power. The first picture is of the stock jeep on a 1/4 mile run with ½ tank of fuel and 40 psi in the tires via the tire sensors.

The next picture is of the Custom Spooling Tune ¼ mile run, all stock except the tune. I made sure I had ½ tank of fuel and 40 psi in the tires via the tire sensors.

I was hoping for a better 60 ft. time, but I can’t make full boost in first gear. All ¼ mile runs were a non-boosted launch. I based this on my wife will not run a boosted launch so I wanted it to be representative of her driving style. I run several ¼ mile runs of each version so this isn’t just one time only. All similar runs were almost identical.
I would like to get into the 13’s with this Jeep. That should be fast enough for the wife and keep the 10 month old daughter smiling. The next thing is a water/methanol injection setup and then an actual race tune from Custom Spooling. I’ve run h2o/methanol injection on my F250 for a while with no issues so I don’t see any issues with the Jeep. Plus it would help clean out the intake manifold now that the EGR is deleted. It will be on a switch so it can stay off if I want.
