Great news if you drive a diesel car with the regenerateable exhaust filter otherwise a waste of money!! The oil is only speced for that type of diesel vehicle!!

MB sheet 229.51 approved oils; low ash long life Mercedes pioneered this new spec for passenger cars with diesel engines with exhaust particulate filters, and gasoline engines, and longer service life than the 229.31 oils. The spec was introduced in 2005. Change intervals increased to 20,000 kilometers. Based on ACEA A3 B4 and C3.

Mobil 1 ESP 5w40 is MB approved and conforms with 229.51

Retail price at pepboys is $12.49

It is low ash oil so you are correct that it was designed for DPF's but you have the added benifit of longer change intervals.

It should also help with less cat build up.

At this price it is a good buy.

Disagree...this oil has worked great in our '05 cdi too. Used to run 0w40 at 7500 intervals, now 5w40 ESP at 10k. Can't really explain why, but mileage jumped noticeably with the ESP oil.

Only thing is, this oil is not suited to gasoline cars in the USA. The higher sulfur & ethanol quantities in our gas are not suited to a low-ash, low-TBN oil.

FYI, dealers sell the stuff at around $6/qt in bulk. Some may be kind enough to sell it to you at that price if your bring jugs. Also, can usually get the ESP stuff for $5/qt at Pep Boys on black Friday every year.
