GL 320 mileage probs, give your opinion...

I'm looking for a bit of advice on a fuel mileage problem. I bought a 2008 GL320 about a year ago. I have calculated as high as 27.5 MPG (all highway, my wife driving). On average, for a mix of city and highway, I was getting 20-21. For all city, I would get like 18-19. I'm very religious about hand calculating my MPG on every tank. The past 2 tanks have been 15 and 14.5??? Is this normal? Is anybody seeing MPGs in the mid teens? I took my car to a local Benz mech in the area (no dealership nearby) he said I had 4 codes all related to 1 o2 sensor. I had it replaced, but it didn't seem to help. My 15 mpg tank was before the fix, my 14.5 was after. Am I missing something here, or are my expectations too high?

mine is doing an average of 22 MPG, but I have to keep my tire pressures at 40 front and 45 back (18") tires last about 40k miles, if I drop the pressure to 35 i get only 19 MPG and my tires last only 30K miles, I have now 108K miles
