83 240D IP Primer Pump Assembly
My new project is giving me fits. I have an 83 240D that won't start. I've taken care of all the power issues (new starter, battery, wires). The problem is that it's not getting fuel. The tank screen is clean, the hoses look good. I think the issue is with the pump. I unhooked the injector rail and no fuel is coming out of the ip when the car turns over. It is pushing fuel backwards through the return line when I use the hand primer.
The hand primer has no leaks, but I took the primer pump assembly off to take a look and I found something strange. Instead of the roller ball i am used to, there is a pin with resistance.
Attached are some photos of my IP and my primer pump assembly that was on the car (with a rod) and what I am used to seeing with a roller.
Since I have no way of knowing if this part was swapped out, does this setup even look right???
The thing is I got this car not running. So I am trying to eliminate the buggering that happened to it before i got it. I hate going back over something someone else has worked on.
I think I will just exchange the ip. As difficult as it is, it seems easier than trying to figure out the mess that is already there. I have two spare working injection pumps that I can put one of them to use.
