Mechanic Recommendations in NJ?
Hi Folks,
I have a 1987 300TD that's been acting up recently, and I've been struggling to find a mechanic who will actually take the time to diagnose the problem and fix it right without throwing parts at it. I've brought it to a few shops in my area (Central NJ) and the one shop that seemed promising--a mercedes only shop run by a German guy--told me that it needs a new transmission and turbo charger...but he also admitted that he doesn't have time to work on 'these old cars', and his main business is computer diagnostics....get a fault code, replace a part, get paid...
The car definitely has some vacuum issues as the door locks stopped working recently, but the main complaint is a lack of power (and lots of smoke when you floor it). I think a lot of these issues are related.
If anyone knows of a good shop on the east coast (I'll even drive to PA, NY, MD, etc) that are true diesel gurus...Please let me know. I'd love to keep this car on the road...
Best,
Marc
