Very innovative, very nicely done!—

So my issue with torque came in not getting the rail nut tight, and it came off under pressure and jacked up the threads on the line nut. GRRR. Actually ended up replacing the line, AND then torqued it properly, however, i think i could have just armstronged the new one and it would have been fine, the damage from the blow off was the issue not as much as proper torque.

I have 1 of those cut-off box wrenches as well. It will not give you the torque flare wrench might as it has skinny arms, but good if it worked.
Good info about what scanner can do the coding.

Hi guys,

I currently have a mild case of Black Death on two cylinders. I have read a lot about how to fix this and I believe I am ready. Now, to my surprise, when ordering the parts, my MB dealer said the bolts that holds the injector are reusable. The tech told me that they don't normally replace the bolts when they do that repair. I was in awe. I could not believe it so I called another MB dealer in the Montreal region. I got the same answer. If no damage to the bolt, corrosion or cracks, the bolts are meant to be reusable. Anybody had the same answer as I? Since it is not expensive, I figure I could as well change the bolts. But I am interested in what you think or know. Thanks.

Would depend on whether the existing ones were installed correctly - that is, stretched into the yield zone of the bolt.
I don't think you'd be able to get much of a handle on that, unless you had new bolt(s) in hand when you pull the old ones to compare their length etc.

Personally, I'd just go ahead and throw out the old ones and torque the new bolts fully according to instructions.
They need to squish the copper seals underneath the injector.

The copper seal will squish long before the bolt will stretch. Torque properly, drive happy.

The stretch bolts should not be normally reusable, so check WIS and don't take dealer opinion about it.
When I was rebuilding OM603 headgasket (1987 model) the manual gave me specific measurement what is allowable stretch for reuse.
I measure all bolts to be stretch less than 50%, so I reused them. Even the bolts were not that expensive, the head had almost 50 of them, so they would add to the bill.
With 6 injector bolts for couple of bucks I would not have 2nd thoughts. Removing broken, heat treated bolts from aluminium block is pain on the ***.
Ask me how I know.

Thank you guys, this is the kind of advice I was looking for. I will go for new bolts, more so that the dealer is 800km away so shipping delay could be an issue if things go south. This forum is nothing short of amazing.
