Low mileage '05 320 CDI FB... Archives read

Hey Guys,

Coming back (I think) to Mercedes after 4-5 year hiatus. Last Benz was an W211 E55 which I kept it for little over 2 years, what a car it was

Any way not looking to buy a Benz but ran into my Indy the other day and got a lead on a one owner, 26K miles '05 320 CDI that suppose to be in excellent shape. I have not seen the car yet and won't see it for another 2-3 weeks but need to know if it's something I need to pursue or not?

In all seriousness, would you guys consider this car and how good of a daily driver is it?

Does it do the black smoke under acceleration and do you hear the valve chattering?

What should be the fair top price for this car?

Thanks

As I answer in duplicate topic, the price for such low miles can be all over the place.
Frankly I don't care about low mileage on diesels.
Last purchased E320 Bluetec had 160k+ miles, yet I did not hesitate to pick it up 2200 miles from home.
Paint is pristine, while I can deal with smaller issues under the hood.
I did own 2005 E320cdi few years ago and even I was really impressed with the drivetrain at the time, IMHO it is 2-3 categories below Bluetec married to 7sp.
Than I6 engine is easier to work on.
Can't have it all in one.

I would expect to be able to pick that car up for $5,000. I think it will be an excellent daily driver and more reliable on account of the reduced amount of emissions crap compared to newer models. Get the EGR turned off right away, and use a good fuel additive to keep it running smooth and too eliminate the soot.

If running tip top, you shouldn't see any black smoke.

I just sold my 2005 CDI with 225,000 miles for $5,000 had two offers at this price. I'd say expect to pay more like $10k

Maybe they sell for more where you are. I just checked auto trader and the most expensive one was $10,500, but it was from a dealer. Other listings went as low as $6500, so after a little bargaining, probably $5000.

Mercedes cars, especially diesels are very territorial in USA.
Big population in California, Chicagoland and NY, but when you go to Nebraska or Wyoming - Mercedes car will have the same looks what white elephant, while Mercedes diesel will be next to flying white elephant. Compare that those states have the cheapest diesel fuel.
That also reflects the pricing.
I bought last Bluetec in Tennessee for good 3 grands less what it would be worth in California.
Selling Ford dealer had no idea how to pull engine cover

Great family touring car, however if you plan on street drags get ready to loose loads of bucks to the E55's---if you do loads of village driving and then run on the express ways--yes you will clean out the exhaust system
and blow some smoke---no more chattering---diesel fuel pumps\injectors(electronic) are totally redesigned(very sad)

I'd offer 8500,but be prepared to be thrown off the property!!
