2011 Mercedes Benz ML350 BlueTec
Barry
We purchased a 2011 ML350 Bluetec with 60000 miles on it. Took it to well established foreign repair shop for the 60000 mile service. The Service Manager called to inform us we need to replace the timing chain, tensioners, and sprocket due to them being stretched. He recommends we tow it to a Mercedes dealer to have done. Has anyone had a similar problem with this engine at this mileage? Even Honda or Toyota don't experience this until well after 100,000 miles.

Sorry to hear of your plight. I would get a second opinion.
A pre purchase inspection by someone who knows is helpful at times.

To OP, Sorry about this. Looks like its a common thing on OM642. I have seen a few posts here related to this, I think yours has lowest miles.
Previous one was 68K. Do you have service records for your car? In some discussion I remember reading it might be related to bad lubrication, MB recommending oil change every 10K which is kind of too long especially for diesels.
Agreed with suggestion to get second opinion.
Contact MB corporate see if they can hep with repair cost reduction. Its defiantly design issue.
I have 57K on mine, and Im getting worry about all possible issues which starts after warranty is over
Keep us posted and good luck.
