E250 diesel versus E350 diesel
I'm new to this forum and looking at purchasing a E class to use for commuting and putting a lot of miles on the car. I know its a 4 cylinder vs a 6 cylinder but my question revolves around durability and longevity. Which is the more reliable, less issues car for putting a lot of miles on the car? Knowing this car will not be under warranty so all repairs will be out of pocket
Which is the recommended model?
thank you in advance

You don't care about 25% of difference in fuel consumption?
I happen to have both and personally I like E250 for that alone.
Then I4 engine is way easier to work on, than packed V6.
To top it, the 250 runs much smoother if that is your priority, when V6 kicks on acceleration.
Sure V6 is nicer for street racing

When 500-600 per tank on 320 is good, the 700-800 miles in 250 is way better.
Every few months we drive from Las Vegas, to San Francisco area. In bay area diesel is about 20-25% more expensive, than in Nevada.
So with E250 we fill up in Nevada and don't have to fill up till we are 1/2 way back to Las Vegas.
So the mpg savings double when you add fuel pricing.
Both engines give you nice kicks at freeway passing, so 60-80 mph acceleration is comparable.
As I said, the 320 has better low speed response if street racing is your priority.
Than for DIY the 4 cylinder is much easier to deal with. Compare ca $2000 labor for oil cooler replacement in V6, when 250 has oil cooler mounted in front of the engine, so about 1 hr of work to replace it (if you need it).
Air filter is 5 minutes job on 250, when you can spend couple hr on driver side filter in 320.
To clear it, 320 blutetec and 350 bluetec are the same block engines, but depends on year and body they are mounted on, some attachments are different.

Does ML250 BT has the same engine as E250?

you may search engine based 'features' by using engine codes, 250 engine is OM651 (known from not-so-strong timing chain etc.) and 350 is om642 (known from oil cooler seal leak and contaminating swirl flap motor by turbo oil leak etc.)

I probably did not see all 642 engines, but they go from 210 hp to 260 hp. ML with this engine has different piping than E with the same engine, while Sprinters do have more differences.
Have not seen ML250 yet but would suspect similar differences.
In Europe 651 engines come with 210 hp and are easily chipped to 260 ponies.
