Lost a piece of zip tie into differential, HELP!
OK, here is a strange one.
1983 300d here. While using my pump to pump new oil into my rear, differential a small piece of zip tie fell off the hose and into the differential hole. I had a small zip tie around a piece of hose extending the length of the pump. It was clipped, and is not very large. Picture a small circular, clipped zip tie.
Can I just leave it in there or will it damage the rear?
I wasn't sure if it would settle to the bottom or bounce around. I suppose I can drain the whole thing again in the hope that it will fall out of there but if it doesn't?

Tough call. Draining easy on that diff? If not I’d be tempted to just run it long enough to pulverize it, then drain and refill? You should see some of things I’ve found floating around in motors!

Yes, I got very lucky. It is a very low mileage car with only 67,000 miles, so the drain and fill plugs were in great shape and came out with no problems. They both look like they were only opened once before.
