14 E250 CEL on, then off - DPF code - reman DPF under warranty

Having a weird thing with my new-to-me E250. 51,000 miles on the clock when I bought it, now 53,XXX.
  1. CEL comes on. Using a genuine and current MB code scanner, determined that the DPF needs a regen. Do a force regen drive, CEL resets. All is well.
  2. CEL comes on again about 700-ish miles later. Using the same MB code scanner, same code. This time, we run through the menus, test a few things and the CEL resets.
  3. CEL comes on again after another 700-ish miles - same code, leave it as-is so the dealer can start the process. Make an appointment with the dealer, still under warranty.
  4. Have to drive for about a week (750 miles) before I can get to the dealer, get a tank of gas, then CEL goes off.
Car never misses a beat during this time. Tailpipe is black and sooty (we checked as part of the scanner test regimen). That test, in the MB scanner says to replace DPF/cat.

Still under the 8/80 emissions warranty. Anybody have anything similar?

The car is 5 years old, only accumulating 51,000 miles. I will be rolling 30,000 per year, 95% highway miles. Suspect the first few years would have been hard on the DPF/cat, just need to get through this episode...

What year is it? I had bad DPF on 2014 E250 BT and MB USA failed to supply new DPF for it. The original part number is obsolete, while the new number found by a dealer was placed on order and after 6 months waiting the part never left Stuttgart
So my advise would be
1. buy ScanGauge and download X gauges for DPF regeneration and soot control.
2 drive observing soot % going up
3. when you notice soot at 100% and regeneration kicking in- turn off ECO and drive around till count comes to 0
In my case DPF was not clog, but the inserts moved and I concluded the error was due too low differential pressure. Scanner did not tell me the detail after displaying the code.
And if you really have the warranty, YELL for new DPF.

Its a 2014, same as yours.

When/if the CEL comes back on, we'll put it on the scanner again. (using a real, current MB scanner for this) If its the same code, then it will go to the dealer immediately.

You might have pening code without CEL.
Since I understand that you already log the problem with the dealer, going there with pending code should give you new DPF.
Get a scanner !!!

This may be a faulty adblue preheater like what I just went through. When CEL initially went on, I brought it to the dealer but by the time they scanned the car (few days later), the CEL was off and they couldn't find any stored codes. I brought it the very next monday when the CEL stayed on and had them check it while I waitied.

Dealer is replacing the soot sensor. Will have the car back on Thursday. Hoping that is the fix.

Covered under the emissions warranty at 53,000 miles.

Do you know the trouble code the CEL produced?

Picked up the car today. Soot control sensor replaced.

CEL came on as I was leaving the dealer.

U-turn... new code for a dpf pressure sensor.

Another 20 minutes pass and now it’s getting a new dpf under warranty at 54,000 miles.

And this time I got a bigger loaner. The gla was way too small.

lol, thats funny. Good thing you caught it while leaving instead of a few days later! Glad to see that at least those parts are covered under emission warranty. Fwiw, it stinks that one of the few parts NOT covered on the emissions warranty (my adblue preheater) failed just a few months out of the factory warranty.

Well... that's the story I will follow very carefully.
I placed order for DPF for 2014 E250 and the part turn out obsolete.
7 months after dealer took my money, the part never left Germany.
Let's see what is going to happen here.

Dealer told me it would be ready on Monday. I asked about availability after reading your posts. They said no problem. I’ll keep everyone posted.

This is sounds pretty fishy.
I have records for my black car and it shows DPF replacement at 120k miles.
Yet 60k miles later the DPF if kaput and the part number on it does'r match the part number master inquiry shows.
so keep all the records in perfect order if if you don't want future problems

Just picked up the car. No CEL. 😀

Here’s the full list of everything done.

Over $4000 against the warranty.

So as expected no new DPF. What was their excuse?
Haven't hear about anybody in USA re-manufacturing them and then so called re-manufactured show 185% clog. I stand the whole case is very fishy and they hosed warranty for 4 grands.
Did you get copy of remanufacturer warranty?

Cat dpf part number is legit. Found in multiple sites for the same money.

I dont understand why it’s fishy?

Both of my 2014 E250 bluetecs come from the factory with DPF part number 2114907614
I have master inquiry for one, showing new DPF installed with the same number you have on your receipt, yet the DPF on the car has old number.
I think PO of my car was hosed and the same feeling here.
You have the repair covered by warranty, so you might not worry about it now, but in my case the "new" DPF gave ghost 60k miles later with no replacement available.
Something to keep in mind.

I suspect that the PN used in my repair is the reman part number. However, the original, new part number is likely to still be on the part physically. Might explain the difference.

I'm hoping that my driving habits, 30,000 miles per year, mostly highway, will keep the DPF clear. And if it doesn't, that someone will crack the code and offer a delete kit by the time I need another DPF.

Time will tell.

My car with bad DPF was used by limo service, so they've been putting over 50k miles a year. Still manage to kill 2 dpf in 3 years.
I did DPF delete and it seem to work, but my state makes annual sniff tests and I can only hope It will pass.

DPF delete? Did you ditch the DEF too?

Wasnt aware are that was out there for these. Tell me more. I suspect these engines will run forever without egr, dpf and def.

my state is sniffer free.

OEtuning got back with me about a handheld tuner for our bluetecs that would be able to upload a dpf delete file, they said they should be coming out soon within the next few weeks.
