Added a secondary fuel filter to 08 e320

Hi all.Has anyone added a secondary fuel filter to their om642?I installed one last week. Its the racor R120AS with the R12S filter which is a 2 micron.I still retained the original filter but just added the racor for peace of mind since the fuel system is expensive in regard to injectors, etc.I mounted mine to the fan shroud and it worked out well.I just had to use a 1/2” aluminium spacer between the shroud and filter housing so I could tighten it up securely.Let me know what you guys think or if it’s overkill.I don’t know what the micron rating is for the factory filter but I also replaced that filter with a mahle brand when I added the secondary. The type of racor system I used is pictured with a R12T filter which is 10 micron but I removed it for R12S (2 micron)I also notched the top engine cover with a grinder so the hoses wouldn’t get pinched when the cover is pushed down into place.I take the cover off during the summer months so excess heat under the hood can escape.

I had something like that on VW over 20 years ago and had to remove it.
While I never had water or big dirt in it. the filter itself gave me several leaks.
