Question w212 E250 BT 4matic MPGs

When i start the engine in the morning ( in Florida ) my "After start" screen shows 11.8 MPG and as I drive it's going up to where it supposed to be 22-27MPGs.
I am wondering if anyone knows why this is happening.
Just curious.

I'm guessing the computer is basing itself on the actual driving conditions. Once you get up to a regular cruising speed, it recalculates.
Again, just a guess

Cold engine always takes more fuel for warm-up and when you idle it in your garage, you will burn few cups of fuel for driving 20 feet.
So 11.8 mpg for that condition ain't bad.
