Sprinter Engine swap OM651 Question
Hi Everyone
My Om651 engine has now blown up twice and I need to replace it with a whole new one, my question is can I put a OM651 engine from a GLA OM651 930 or something other than a sprinter ? I've looked closely at the engines and they look identical, I will expect some differences but the block seems to be the same, so will I have any problems swapping them over ? I.E gearbox fitment? ecu compatibility issues?
Thanks so much

OM651 in GLA rated at 195 HP
OM651 in Sprinter rated at 161 hp.
Beside dual fan and vacuum clutch on Sprinter application, looks like the tune in quite different.
Might take very long process to figure out the differences.

While the OM651 2.2 engine is essentially the same for all variants, there are a number of difference that will stop you swapping some engines over.
If we are talking about a bare long engine then you need to note there are a few different versions of the cylinder block. The turbo oil return is in different places.
the sump is different and so is the oil pickup
the rear timing case to transmission has different variants.
the pre egr cooler on the back of the head is larger on a sprinter.
If you are thinking about it as a complete engine there are even more differences. The turbo can be different and not recognised by the ecu. Injectors might be different.
To finish on, just because the OM651 engine in another car is rated at higher BHP doesn’t mean it will be the same in a sprinter.
That is all dependent on the map in the ECU.
The 313 and the 316 is essentially the same engine just different maps.
