Collecting opinions regarding oil leak from turbo. Got an estimate of $12000.00 to repair oil leak. The remedy is to replace the turbo. Since the turbo is listed in the extended warranty item list should it not be covered. Service says "oil leaks not covered". I asked for them to put the decision in writing and I'm still waiting for response. Any suggestions??

Catch 22
Not sure. Service rep has not responded to my reluctance to accept that it’s not covered by extended warranty. I think they expect the 12k estimate would send me packing, and if in fact it is not, they are correct. I never get a good feeling when the service rep disappears into the bowels of the dealership to find answers.
Regarding your specific question, my mechanic has done it both ways and prefers to remove the engine. That way it eliminates the possibility of poorly reinstalled parts due to awkward positions.
